Chicago Center for Vision Research, Ltd.

The Chicago Center for Vision Research, Ltd. (CCVR) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization launched in 1998 to fund ophthalmology research and education. CCVR has largely focused on glaucoma-related ventures: advancing new eye therapies for glaucoma, supporting the education of future glaucoma specialists and expanding public awareness about glaucoma.

Why glaucoma? Because it comprises a group of eye diseases affecting 70 million people worldwide. Everyone is at risk of developing glaucoma, and it is a disease without a cure. For many, especially those who remain undiagnosed and untreated for the disease, it slowly steals their sight. Consequently, glaucoma is a leading cause of preventable blindness throughout the world. Research

CCVR researchers and specialists at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine work collaboratively to further the understanding of glaucoma and its causes, applying new technologies to diagnose and manage the disease and optimize therapy. Learn more about CCVR's clinical research.

Education

CCVR supports the training of glaucoma specialists by funding a glaucoma fellowship. These physicians have completed their ophthalmology residency and have sought out University Eye Specialists (UES) to become experts in the subspecialty of glaucoma. Fellows enhance the quality of patient care while learning from their mentors. Specifically, UES patients benefit from glaucoma fellows' focus on complex cases: Fellows are able to devote considerable time answering questions and counseling patients.

University Eye Specialists' doctors have trained more than 35 committed fellows thus far. These physicians practice in over 14 states and 4 countries, working in settings ranging from academia and private practice to government agencies. Providing first-rate glaucoma fellowship training is key to ensuring quality care is more accessible to patients everywhere. Meet our distinguished former fellow, Steven Vold, MD, whose life's work is devoted to improving the quality and cost effectiveness of glaucoma care for everyone.

Community Outreach

CCVR engages in a variety of community outreach efforts designed to increase public awareness about glaucoma. Activities include medical missions overseas, speaking engagements at hospitals and senior centers and providing free glaucoma screenings and eyeglasses for those without access to health care.
